How Does Your Garden Grow?

I have officially given up on the front lawn.  The weeds win.  Eastern exposure + no shade whatsoever = it would be very environmentally irresponsible to try to keep a lawn alive there, so I'm just going to admit defeat.

Part of my willingness to admit defeat is that I think, without too much effort, we should be able to develop and keep a somewhat decent lawn in the back yard.  For a while there I was afraid the moss was going to win, but I think that was just because the grass hadn't been given a proper chance earlier.  It's not there yet, but it's moving in the right direction.

So, the current grand plan/priority list for the Garden of Swank is:

  1. Get all the weeds under control.  Front yard is basically there (if you ignore the lawn).  Back yard has had a surprising amount of progress made on it this year.  I hope to be able to complete this job this year.
  2. Get all of the plants pruned and in relatively good shape.  Things aren't to bad here, and will continue to get better.
  3. Start a garden.  There is already space set aside in the back yard for this.  I'm ignoring that space right now.  My hope is to be able to begin this project next year - family willing.
  4. Start to replace the lawn in the front yard with non-lawn stuff.  This is probably at least a couple of years away, as I care about the garden more, and I have to figure out what the non-lawn stuff is going to be.  But it's fun to start pondering it.
