They're Full Of Lies
When one is with child one and not spending their time working one tends to spend a fair amount of time trolling the internets to read the stories of other pregnant-type people, so as to prepare for what is to come and, occasionally, feel smugly superior.
As a result of all of this "research" one of the things I was somewhat fearing about this pregnancy was the gestational diabetes test. Basically, you have to drink a specially concocted beverage that is chock-full o' gluose, one hour later they test your blood sugar to see how you processed it all. If you "pass" the test the story is now over and if you "fail" the test then you take a 3-hour version of the same test, and potentially have to deal with a lot of crap if it turns out you are suffering from gestational diabetes.
The drink is what I feared the most. Almost every story you read tells of how vile the stuff is, how it made people ill, and how it really should be avoided like the devil.
I got the drink at Monday's appointment and was told to take the test sometime this week or next. I decided today was the day, and spent a good chunk of the morning procrastinating, not wanting to drink the vile, evil drink. Just when I'd talked myself into it, I had difficulties getting the container open and feared I'd have to postpone even further.
But now I'm sucking the stuff down and, truth be told, it's rather tasty. Tasty enough that I've got no challenges with the fact that I've got to suck down 10 ounces of the stuff in 10 minutes (usually I'm a slow drinker). I'm just enjoying a nice, refreshing beverage while whipping out a blog post.
To be quite honest, if they made a version of this beverage that were not chock-full o' glucose, I could easily see this as my beverage of choice during this pregnancy.
As it is, I've now finished my refreshing beverage and must scurry myself off to the clinic. Apparently if my blood is not being drawn exactly one hour from the moment I started drinking the drink then results are null and void and I have to go through it all over again.
