Eighteen years from now do not be surprised if you see Hedgehog surreptitiously checking into some scummy motel that rents rooms by the hour. We're sort of setting him up for that lifestyle now. Not that he'll be engaging in any morally- or legally-questionable behavior (he is his father's son, after all), but I think Hedgehog might develop an addiction to those magic fingers beds that can only be found in such establishments.
Night #1 at home he did not do so well with the sleeping in the bed. He liked to sleep on people. Which is very nice in that it gives you ample opportunity to hold the baby, but not necessarily so conducive to getting a good night's sleep yourself. That's why we got a Pack 'n' Play - so that Hedgehog could sleep next to us during the night for easy access for feedings and changes and snuggles and such.
As we prepared for night #2, Sweetie pointed out the Pack 'n' Play we owned was equipped with a magic fingers feature. Technically, I believe it's simply called "vibration" - but let's call a spade a spade. We decided to give it a try, thinking that perhaps the movement might be enough to lull Hedgehog into sleep. And it completely, totally worked. I was still up half the night last night, but that's more because Hedgehog finally decided to become a chow hound and spend half the night nursing, rather than being upset that he was unable to sleep.
So, for the time being, magic fingers it is.
