Observations from tonight's Portland Beavers game:
- The final score of the game tonight was 5-2 (go Beavs!), and every single one of those runs was scored via home run. A total of five home runs (3 for us, 2 for them), hit by 5 different guys. I thought that was very cool.
- On the scoreboard, the graphics for the Sacramento Rivercats featured the team logo with a photo of the player superimposed in front of the logo. So it looked like the Rivercat was about to attack the players head with its enormous claws. Very odd.
(photo to come of this, once I upload the photo from Sweetie's camera)
- At the team store you can buy a piece of Portland baseball history, by means of a Portland Rockies' hat, for the bargain price of $8. The Rockies last played in Portland in 2000. For the final month of the season merchandise was clearanced out so that Rockies fans and the desperately poor would never need for another fitted cap or t-shirt again in their lives. Then, a truckload of the stuff was taken to the Tri-Cities, where a Rockies' night was held during the 2001 season, and t-shirts and hats were constantly launched into the stands. You have NO IDEA how much Portland Rockies merchandise there was in the storehouse shortly before the team ceased to exist. But, because of that, I'm fairly confident there is no one on the planet wanting for Portland Rockies paraphenalia at the moment, much less wanting to pay $8 for it.
- "Content Management Systems" was a group at the game tonight. The PA announcer seemed to think they were a very calm, peaceful group by his pronunciation of the first word.
- For the first two innings of the game we sat in front of a guy who was obviously trying to simultaneously teach and impress a date with his knowledge of baseball. While overhearing their conversation I learned that if you strike out every batter in a baseball game, that is what defines a perfect game. "Strike out" meaning the player did not get a hit. If the player gets on base, they got a hit. Really, the lack of knowledge this guy had about the game made me want to hurt him. It also made me happy that my Sweetie taught me correct information about the game of baseball when he was originally wooing me.
Wow. We talk about "content management systems" all the time at work. I am so totally going to use that pronunciation.

I love listening to conversations around me at ballgames. We're going to the Twins/Rangers game tonight...
